Is It Possible to Live Perfectly?

Is It Possible to Live Perfectly?
The Answer Is…YES

From the world’s view, this may seem like an impossible feat. Proposing that one would have never made any mistakes in life and would have to continue living in this fashion…Which no one has done…that is until Yeshua HaMashiach. The only One to truly be sinless and blameless.

To fully understand this concept, we will have to explore this from God’s perspective.

First, what does it mean to live perfectly?

PERFECTION according to the Oxford Dictionary:

  • the condition, state, or quality of being free or as free as possible from all flaws or defects.
  • a person or thing perceived as the embodiment of perfection.
  • the action or process of improving something until it is faultless or as faultless as possible.

By the world’s standards, the general perception of a perfect person is a flawless person in their own right, can do no wrong by their own hand, a “good person” who respects others and who loves unconditionally. He or she does everything they need to when they need to and in the way, they need to do it. Of course, the opinion of perfection may vary with each individual.

But can that logic be enough to be acceptable in the sight of God?

No, it cannot because God has given specific instructions [Law of The Spirit] as to what is acceptable and holy in His sight. There are many people that would consider themselves to be good people but if you deny the Son then you deny The Father and so you will find that one will be in opposition with God counted as a child of disobedience.

Matthew 19:17 NKJV

So He said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.”

The following verses are an example of how scripture shows us some of the characteristics of being perfect in the sight of God.

Matthew 5:46-48 (Key Verse 48)
46 For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47 And if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so? 48 Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.

1 John 4:18 NKJV
18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.

Matthew 19:21 NKJV
21 Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”

James 1:4 NKJV
But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.

How can you obtain the character that is holy and acceptable in the sight of God?

Let’s see what scripture says…

Romans 12:1-2 NKJV

Living Sacrifices to God

12 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable serviceAnd do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Hebrews 10:26 NKJV

The Just Live by Faith

26 For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,

1 John 4:17 NKJV

The Consummation of Love

17 Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world.

1 John 2:1 NKJV

The Test of Knowing Christ

My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

1 John 3:6 NKJV
Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him.

Ephesians 2:8-9 NKJV
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

1 John 3:9 NKJV
Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.

Luke 13:3 NKJV
I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.

John 14:15-16 NKJV
If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever,

James 1:25 NKJV
25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the workthis one will be blessed in what he does.

Why is it necessary to be holy and acceptable or “perfect”?

Romans 3:23 NKJV
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

Matthew 9:13 NKJV
13 But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”

2 Corinthians 7:1 NKJV

The Corinthians’ Repentance

Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

Romans 6:11 NKJV
11 Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

John 3:16 NKJV
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

2 Timothy 2:19 NKJV
19 Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal:The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

Yeah, but we’re gentiles, I mean…no one’s perfect we’re all sinners right? That’s why there’s Grace.” – The World

Well no, not if you abide in Christ. If you’re a child of God you are adopted into His kingdom. So, at a time in your life before being made new through the Blood of Christ, you WERE a GENTILE, you WERE a SINNER but you are NO LONGER counted as that. For old things have passed away and you are washed cleaned and made whole through the finished work of our King.

You have been given the gift of Salvation through God’s Love, Grace, and Mercy to have the opportunity to live to his Holy Standard, repenting daily and believing in Jesus, and in what He has done & who He is. The precious Lamb was slain to atone the sins of mankind. Grace is what God has always had for His people in the OT and the NT and is confirmed and shown through Jesus. As a unique & peculiar people, obedient & acceptable in the sight of God, we bow down in love & humility before the throne of our Lord…our prayers are a sweet-smelling aroma unto His Nostrils. This is a picture of the perfected state of God’s people who are the inheritance of Yeshua.

Here are some key verses that explain this perfectly:

Romans 6:1-2 NKJV

Dead to Sin, Alive to God

What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?

In Ephesians 1:3-14 NKJV,
We learn of the Redemption in Christ:
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, 4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, 5 having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, 6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.

7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace 8 which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence, 9 having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself, 10 that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth—in Him. 11 In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will, 12 that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory.

13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.

You can read the entirety of Isaiah 56:1-10 NKJV. Here I’ll be highlighting verses 6-8.

Salvation for the Gentiles
56 Thus says the Lord:

Keep justice, and do righteousness,
For My salvation is about to come,
And My righteousness to be revealed.

2 Blessed is the man who does this,
And the son of man who lays hold on it;
Who keeps from defiling the Sabbath,
And keeps his hand from doing any evil.”

3 Do not let the son of the foreigner
Who has joined himself to the Lord
Speak, saying,
“The Lord has utterly separated me from His people”;
Nor let the eunuch say,
“Here I am, a dry tree.”
4 For thus says the Lord:
“To the eunuchs who keep My Sabbaths,
And choose what pleases Me,
And hold fast My covenant,

5 Even to them I will give in My house
And within My walls a place and a name
Better than that of sons and daughters;
I will give them an everlasting name
That shall not be cut off.

6 “Also the sons of the foreigner
Who join themselves to the Lord, to serve Him,
And to love the name of the Lord, to be His servants—
Everyone who keeps from defiling the Sabbath,
And holds fast My covenant—
7 Even them I will bring to My holy mountain,
And make them joyful in My house of prayer.

Their burnt offerings and their sacrifices
Will be accepted on My altar;
For My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations.”
8 The Lord God, who gathers the outcasts of Israel, says,
“Yet I will gather to him
Others besides those who are gathered to him.”

And finally in Ephesians 2:11-22 NKJV,
Scripture explains our perfect identity in Christ and how God’s Will was done through Him.

Brought Near by His Blood
11 Therefore remember that you, once Gentiles in the flesh—who are called Uncircumcision by what is called the Circumcision made in the flesh by hands— 12 that at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.

Christ Our Peace
14 For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, 15 having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, 16 and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity. 17 And He came and preached peace to you who were afar off and to those who were near. 18 For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.

Important:

Ephesians 2:15-16 says “having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, 16 and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity.”

Laws and ordinances are different. The Law of The Spirit is everlasting but the ordinances that required man to do something is where the weakness mentioned in Hebrews 7 was. Yeshua Who is our Strength replaced those weaknesses with His Eternal Glory. Thereby, taking upon Him our cares & burdens and giving us His Yoke which is easy, and His burden which is light (Matthew 11:30).

**Isn’t The Holy Scriptures of God amazing?! We can see the interweaving of the layer of His Word in the passages. **

Enmity is described as enmity, hostility, antipathy, antagonism, animosity, rancor, animus mean deep-seated dislike or ill will. Enmity suggests positive hatred which may be open or concealed. The state or feeling of being actively opposed or hostile to someone or something.

Jesus destroyed enmity and replaced it with UNITY in love, mercy & grace.

In the first century, during Yeshua’s ministry, He revealed His Testimony in that He did not “do away with” or “abolish” God’s Law or God’s Commandments. On the contrary, He fulfilled the oath of His Father prophesied through the order of Melchizedek, according to Hebrews 7 (The King of Righteousness). Yeshua not only brought the gift of SalvationRedemption through the Atonement of His Blood through the Resurrection; our King of Glory replaced the earthly priesthood according to the law and established His Eternal Priesthood. We now are united in Christ both Messianic Jews (those who believe in & accept Yeshua) and Gentile (“non-Jewish by physical birth” believers). No longer in opposition (enmity), we are engrafted into the Olive Tree as one new man in Christ becoming spiritual Jews in Christ, The Bible references Israel & Judah which is an example of the dual meanings prevalent in The Word. Meaning not just the ancient people groups & lands but also the time to come of a people throughout time & the last days all unified as one man and in one mind in Christ.

Ecclesiastes 1:9,

That which has been is what will be,
That which is done is what will be done,
And there is nothing new under the sun.

Obedience to The Commands of God still applies and Grace is seen in the NT & OT The OT & NT are indeed a mirror image of the Unity (joining, wholeness, fullness) of The Father and Son. Yeshua did not come to abolish the law but to fulfill [complete] according to His Word in Matthew 5:17-20. Because of His obedience and fulfillment of God’s Word that does not return void but indeed is established forever, we are now called according to Rev. 5:10, kings and priests to out God and reign in the earth (that will be joined as one together with Messiah in The Consummation of Love (1 John 4:17), The Wedding Feast of The Lamb according to Revelation 19:7-9.

Hebrews 7:28 NKJV

28 For the law appoints as high priests men who have weakness, but the word of the oath, which came after the law, appoints the Son who has been perfected forever.

Continuing on with our topic, let’s finish going over the scriptures regarding perfection & the perfected state of God’s people.

Matthew 5:17-20 NKJV

Christ Fulfills the Law

17 “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. 18 For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. 19 Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.

Christ Our Cornerstone
19 Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, 20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, 22 in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.

So as you can see, YES it is absolutely possible to live perfectly. for to live perfectly is to obey God, which is living to His holy standard. That is the character of one who loves God and is a doer of the Word showing that you have heard the Word. To live perfectly, is in addition to the Holy standard of God, repenting daily. God not only tells you what to do to be holy but how to do it. Repent. Turn from away sin. Having faith in Yehoshua Who is and is called Salvation, the Beloved of our Father. Our Messiah Who strengthens us overrules our weakness. The Lord has sent us His Holy Spirit Who is The Helper, Teacher, and Comforter. When we align our thinking and our doing with The Will of God, we will find ease and grace in overcoming and living in this world even though we are not of it.

For God’s Word says:
Philippians 4:13 NKJV

13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

In everything Yeshua is the Cornerstone, He is our Peace and He is our Great Example of how to live perfectly in the sight of God The Father and God The Son. Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh.

In closing,
May Adonai continue to shine His Face and Countenance upon His children in a world full of thunder. May you have The Revelation of Yeshua Jesus and a peace that only He can give through The Holy Spirit.

Remember,

biblical perfection is the completion of walking in the fullness of God’s Will through following our Messiah The Great Shepherd.
