Q&A Forum | Conditional Love & Marriage

God’s Word is of the upmost importance and is the standard His people live by. Therefore, we follow the Example [The Action] of Yeshua in holding firm to keeping our word. Following Christ allows us to keep our integrity and character intact and shows the level of respect we have for our God & King, ourselves, and others.

It would do us well to remember the importance of being ambassadors of The Gospel of Christ for our example [as we follow Yeshua] can change the perception of what is helpful according to the world versus what is beneficial according to The Holy Scriptures.

Someone recently presented the following question:

Q.

What are my rights? My husband bought the house we moved into together 23 years ago. He says he made all the mortgage payments so it is “HIS” house. Is that true? My name was placed on the deed 16 years ago when we got married.

A.

Hello,

There are two parts at play here…

One side of this is the physical aspect…I’ll address this issue first.

The best thing is to get an attorney that specializes in this area of law. You need an advocate who understands the law and regulations to fight on your behalf for what your entitled to.

Your husband may have beared the financial responsibility but your name is also on the deed making you partiality responsible and the holder of partial ownership of the property. For instance, he as partial owner cannot sell the property without your permission because you’re on the deed.

He may feel that way because of the amount of money he put into the house however, the court would see it differently because you’re named as part owner…and in marriage that’s what spouses do as a whole…they help one another.

Which brings me to the second part to this…the spiritual aspect.

More importantly, the issue of the house may show the conditional statues of love that your marriage is built on. I say that because he calls it “his house” as opposed to “our house”, that’s a conditional statement.

Marriage is a vow to join spiritually and physically functioning as a unit. There should be no more “I”…it should be “we” and “us”. He’s willing to share “his” portion with you but if he already has this thinking it may get pretty turbulent when you start looking into the truth of the matter within what lies at the root of the foundation of your union and also in what the law says is proper regarding this issue.

What is in the heart will show outwardly and his statements are a cause for concern.

Tread carefully but stand boldly and seek the necessary legal expertise and advice to come to the most fair and reasonable solution.

Protect your heart and fight the good fight of faith for your life including your marriage.

Be of good courage.

All the best : )

As believers, we can make a difference, whether by acts of kindness, partaking in conversation, or simply answering a question, these events are opportunities to show what the mind of Christ looks like. Thereby, applying Biblical principles to circumstances we face in our everyday lives and daily living.

Ephesians 6:12 NKJV
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
Colossians 3:9-11 NKJV
Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, 10 and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him, 11 where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all.
Proverbs 10:18 NKJV
Whoever hides hatred has lying lips,
And whoever spreads slander is a fool.

Be holy for He Is Holy.
